Silver Malele is the coach, manager and founder of the Silver Stars hockey club.  He is a father of 6 with a passion for helping others.  From the beginning in 2001 he engaged with the Diepsloot children about their lives and encouraged them to share with the other children, inspiring them to remain positive under trying conditions where life on the streets always seems to be an easy alternative.

When he isn't coaching the children he runs life skills clinics for them in the holidays and continues to talk to them about the basic issues of growing up.

For the rest of his time, Silver works as a volunteer at the local clinic in Diepsloot where he runs support
groups for HIV/AIDS patients and their families, helping them setup food gardens and providing counselling.

Silver's passion for hockey started in the late seventies, when he started playing at the Witkoppen school in Fourways, Johannesburg. After leaving school, he stopped playing as a matter of principle
"In those days there was no good treatment,"  he said.

His love of the game was reignited many years later when he decided that he wanted to do something positive for his community. "As South Africans we are just focused on soccer," he said. "So I thought let me do something different and see if the kids would be interested in hockey."  Silver Stars Hockey Club was born!

In 2008 on a counselling course Silver and Siobhan Brown met.  When chatting about dreams Silver mentioned
his own one of a hockey academy in Diepsloot.  They connected immediately and their friendship and partnership was formed.  Siobhan is the club Administrator and Treasurer and is married to a hockey player and has 2 sons that play hockey at a higher level.
